Viognier is a white wine grape variety. It is the only permitted grape for the French wine Condrieu in the Rhône Valley. Outside of the Rhône, Viognier can be found in regions of North and South America as well as Australia, New Zealand, the Cape Winelands in South Africa and Israel.
Viognier wine is a full-bodied white wine that originated in southern France. It is loved for its perfumed aromas of mango, peach, tangerine and honeysuckle to creamier aromas of vanilla with spices of nutmeg and clove. It can also be oak-aged to add a rich creamy taste with hints of vanilla.
On the palate, Viogniers are typically dry but some producers will make a slightly off-dry style that embellishes Viognier’s peachy aromas
