MARS SHINSHU KOMAGATAKE NATURE OF SHINSHU 'RINDO' KOHIGANZAKURA SINGLE MALT WHISKY
Sandwiched between Japan’s soaring the Southern Alps and the towering Central Alps, at just over 2,600 feet, Mars Shinshu is Japan’s highest whiskey distillery. The Hombo family have been distilling shochu for more than a century and added whiskey to their repertoire in 1949. Back then, the distillery was located in Kagoshima Prefecture on the southernmost island of Kyushu. In 1984, the Hombo clan moved the distillery to the idyllic alpine setting of Miyada village in southern Nagano Prefecture. They chose this site for its cool temperature, which slowed maturation, and the plentiful, soft, granite-filtered snowmelt-fed aquifers.

Kohiganzakura means “Alpine Cherry Blossom” and is the second in the Nature Series from Komagatake. This single malt series is inspired by the seasons and the plants around the distillery. This particular one is inspired by the fresh blooming cherry blossom. A blending of 3-6 years and old single malt 25-30 years with notes of coconut, leather, and hints smoke on the finish.
